Fund Raiser Conferences
Each year the Henderson County Master Gardeners has brought informative and interesting speakers in for an evening of food and fun. This is one of two major fundraisers we have that allows us to provide free  horticultural information and training to Henderson County residents throughout the year.  Here are some of the speakers.

  • 2018 – Neil Sperry – “Facts and Fantasies of Texas Gardening”
  • 2017 – Amy Stewart – “Wicked Plants”
  • 2016 – Dr. David Creech – “Native Plants”
  • 2015 – Richard “Skip” Richter – “Smarter Gardening the Easy Way”
  • 2014 – Dr. Steve George – “From Roses to Vegetables to Shade Trees: Creating a Truly Earthkind Landscape”
  • 2013 –  Dr. William C. “Bill” Welch –  Horticulture professor Texas A & M, author, “Heirloom Gardening In The South”, “Perennial Garden Color”, “Antiques Roses For The South”, contributor for “Southern Living” magazine.
  • 2012 –  Steven L. Chamblee – traveled far and wide observing gardens, loves native plants, writer and lecturer. Knowledgeable of plants and how to use them.
  • 2011 –  Greg Grant – a nationally known  horticulturist, naturalist and garden writer, who lives and works in East Texas, co-author, new book, “Heirloom Gardening for the South.”
  • 2010 –  Steve Huddleston – Senior Horticulturist at Fort Worth Botanical Gardens – author of “Easy Gardens for North Central Texas”.
  • 2009Elvin McDonald, Editor at large of “Better Homes & Gardens”, author of new book “Texas Public Gardens”,  called Dean of Garden Writers
  • 2008  –  Chris Weisinger  –  Southern Bulb Company  – Heirloom bulbs –
  • 2007  –  Lucinda Hutson  – author of two books “The Herb Garden Cook Book” and “Tequila! Cooking With The Spirit Of Mexico” noted lecturer and known for her unique home and gardens.
  • 2006  –  Neil Sperry –  Widely known Gardening Columnist, author of “Neil Sperry’s Complete Guide to Texas Gardening” and radio talk show host
  • 2005  –  Dr Steve George  –  Earthkind Roses, how to grow, and how they are selected, history of the program.
  • 2004  – Greg Grant –  well know lecturer, co-author of “The Southern Heirloom Gardens”, a well known plantsman.
  • 2003 Dr Brent Pemberton  –  Outstanding Ornamental plants from the Overton Experiment Station
  • 2002Keith Hansen, Smith Co Horticulturist, webmaster Smith Co, TX, “East Texas Gardening,” and weekly garden column – Tyler Morning Telegraph.
  • 2001Dr. David Creech, Stephen F Austin University, establishing your gardens.  Rick Hirsch, gave the program when Dr. Creech, was unable to attend the event.
